Functional Capacity Assessments
At Independence Pathways OT, Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) are completed to provide a comprehensive understanding of a person’s current abilities, support needs, and the impact of disability on everyday functioning.
Assessments are tailored to the individual and consider how physical, cognitive, sensory, psychosocial, and environmental factors affect participation in daily life, community access, mobility, self-care, domestic tasks, social engagement, and overall independence.
Our assessments are completed with a practical and evidence-based approach, with consideration of both current support needs and anticipated future needs where relevant, particularly for progressive or complex conditions.
What is included in a FCA?
A Functional Capacity Assessment may include:
Review of relevant medical and allied health documentation
Discussion with the client, family, carers, and support team
Assessment of daily living skills and functional performance
Assessment of mobility, transfers, fatigue, cognition, and safety
Consideration of home and community participation
Identification of barriers impacting independence and wellbeing
Recommendations for supports, assistive technology, therapy, and environmental modifications
Comprehensive reporting suitable for NDIS plan reviews and funding requests
Who may benefit from an FCA?
Functional Capacity Assessments may be appropriate for people who:
Require a NDIS plan review or reassessment
Need increased supports due to changes in function
Require evidence for Assistive Technology or Home Modifications
Are transitioning to Supported Independent Living (SIL) or Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
Have progressive neurological or complex health conditions
Require clearer identification of support needs and functional impacts
